Mrs. Asmita Amol Thakur has been a dedicated Kathak performer, teacher, and choreographer with over 16 years of experience. She runs her own Kathak dance institute, guiding over 100 students in the graceful art of Kathak. Asmita has created and performed in several notable productions, including ‘Pravahini’ (Stories of Indian Rivers), ‘Samyukta: The Inseparable’, ‘Nrityayog’ (A Confluence of Dance & Yog), ‘Chakravyuha: The Cycle of Emotional Entrapment’, and ‘Naadatmika: A Story of Rhythm’. In this edition of Abhivyakti City Arts Project, she brings ‘Vi-Ka-Vi-Bu: Vinash Kaale Viparita Buddhi’ - based on the Sanskrit proverb of the same name, a Kathak dance drama that explores the Hasya Rasa. The story follows the comic misadventures of a young boy across different Yugas. The society and its ways pester him. His exhaustion pushes him into a state of deep sleep and he witnesses themes from Satyayuga (Vishnu-Mohini), Tretayuga (excerpts from the Ramayana), Dvapara Yuga (Duryodhana’s Matsar) and Kaliyuga (Buddha’s journey) - ultimately learning the value of wisdom through Buddha’s teachings, portraying how the mind falters during times of destruction.
