Abhivyakti
The City Arts Project

An initiative of the UNM Foundation — Torrent group that aims to encourage original thinking and experimentation in the field of arts, across the four segments of Visual Arts, Music, Dance and Theatre, with Literature piloted in the latest edition. Abhivyakti invites proposals from artists across the country to participate in this annual project. The curatorial philosophy is oriented to honour conceptual thinking, artistic knowledge and execution ability. The stage of Abhivyakti is committed to being a catalyst to encourage and develop talent in the field of arts. Abhivyakti endeavours to contribute to making art a meaningful part of public life and give audiences new ways of seeing the world. It strives to inspire art, ideas and conversations that are meaningful to artists and audiences alike.

One of the key promises of ABHIVYAKTI is to set the stage for the brave ones.

The curatorial focus is not on any specific genre or style, but more on the artist's inventiveness. The endeavour is to make Abhivyakti a platform of discovery and to give an impetus to the latent creative potential in and around the city of Ahmedabad.

This is achieved by a discerning curatorial process.

• Open call
• Screening by curators
• Session with mentors
• Final selection based on combined inputs
• Incubation: preparation for the festival
• Performance at the festival in front of patrons, mentors & curators

About UNM Foundation

The Foundation’s ecological work is anchored through Pratiti, which develops and maintains 8.44 lakh square metres of parks and green spaces across Gujarat. It covers 17 gardens, 2 lakes, and an urban forest across Ahmedabad, Surat and Daman. It has also been restoring the green cover at the Shetrunjay Hills in Palitana. Pratiti is the force behind Ahmedabad's landmarks like Parimal Garden, Lokmanya Tilak - Victoria Garden and Sardar Baug. The Foundation has also committed to the restoration of 69 lakes in and around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, contributing to long-term urban ecological health. By creating rejuvenated community spaces, it now attracts over 60 lakh visitors annually, reflecting strong community engagement, and the need for more urban green spaces.

In education, the Foundation’s programmes focus on improving learning outcomes and creating pathways for continued education and employment. Under Shiksha Setu, the Learning Enhancement Programme supports structured teaching and learning for teachers and students, helping reduce learning gaps. The Second Chance Programme provides academic support to school dropouts, while the Vocational Skill Development Programme equips young people, particularly women, with skills aligned to current employment opportunities.

The Shardashish School Initiative focuses on building new school infrastructure and upgrading existing facilities to create clean, safe, and modern learning environments for students and teachers.
