Abhivyakti
The City Arts Project
It is an initiative that encourages original thinking and experimentation in the arts. It engages with diverse artistic practices across visual arts, music, dance, theatre, and literature, creating a platform for contemporary artistic expression.
The project invites proposals from artists across the country to participate in this annual initiative. Its curatorial approach values conceptual clarity, depth of artistic knowledge, and strength of execution, supporting work that is thoughtful, rigorous, and exploratory.
Abhivyakti positions its stage as a catalyst for nurturing and developing artistic talent. By offering artists space, visibility, and critical engagement, the project seeks to support creative risk-taking and meaningful artistic growth.
Rooted in the belief that art should be an integral part of public life, Abhivyakti aims to create shared cultural experiences that expand perspectives. It aspires to inspire ideas, dialogue, and conversations that resonate deeply with both artists and audiences, offering new ways of seeing and engaging with the world
The UNM Foundation is an initiative of the Mehta Family of the Torrent Group and is committed to advancing human well-being through sustained and meaningful interventions. The Foundation works across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, with initiatives spanning community healthcare, education, art and culture, and ecological restoration. Through its work, the UNM Foundation has positively impacted more than 2.5 crore lives.
In the area of community healthcare, the Foundation runs the U. N. Mehta Heart Hospital in Ahmedabad and the UNM Children’s Hospital in Surat. Beyond institutional care, it has facilitated over 8 lakh consultations through its Paediatric Health Centres and conducted screening camps for malnutrition and anaemia. Recently, the Foundation launched Sankalan, a state-of-the-art neuro-rehabilitation centre in Ahmedabad, further strengthening access to specialised care.
In education, the Foundation’s programmes focus on improving learning outcomes and creating pathways for continued education and employment. Under Shiksha Setu, the Learning Enhancement Programme supports structured teaching and learning for teachers and students, helping reduce learning gaps. The Second Chance Programme provides academic support to school dropouts, while the Vocational Skill Development Programme equips young people, particularly women, with skills aligned to current employment opportunities.
The Shardashish School Initiative focuses on building new school infrastructure and upgrading existing facilities to create clean, safe, and modern learning environments for students and teachers.
The Foundation’s ecological work is anchored through Pratiti, which develops and maintains 8.44 lakh square metres of parks and green spaces across Gujarat. Pratiti is behind several of Ahmedabad’s well-known public spaces, including Parimal Garden, Lokmanya Tilak–Victoria Garden, and Sardar Baug. The Foundation has also committed to the restoration of 69 lakes in and around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, contributing to long-term urban ecological health.
In the field of art and culture, the UNM Foundation presents Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project, which brings high-quality performing arts into public spaces and makes cultural experiences accessible to diverse audiences.
