UNM Foundation was established by the Mehta family of the Torrent group to carry forward the founder's vision and values. The Foundation works with a strong commitment to create meaningful change across the sectors of art & culture, healthcare, education and enhancement of employability, regeneration of the environment and urban renewal.
While Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project works to make art inclusive and accessible to all, the UNM Foundation is equally committed to fostering holistic community development. The Foundation strives to make quality healthcare affordable through the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, UNM Children’s Hospital, and various Primary Health Centres. It also focuses on empowering students with practical skills through initiatives such as Learning Development, SuGanitam, Balvatika, and Second Chance programmes. In addition, the Foundation works to create child-friendly learning environments by constructing and upgrading school infrastructure, and to nurture greener cities through the restoration and maintenance of public parks and urban green spaces.
About Abhivyakti
The City Arts Project
Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project brings together emerging and established artists from across India in a nurturing space to explore, express, and evolve. Rooted in Ahmedabad, Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project began in 2018, its first edition, an approach-and-curate event featuring local stories and talents. Subsequent editions invited fresh concepts from across the country, and provided mentorship + financial support for the premieres of the selected productions at the annual event in Ahmedabad.
Spanning dance, music, theatre, and visual arts, the event is accessible and free for all audiences. The project has showcased 400+ fresh productions and supported 600+ artists across 6 editions with a cumulative footfall of over 6,00,000 people. The 7th edition will witness 140+ productions from 45 cities across 16 states in India spread across 3 venues - 6 stages and 3 platforms presenting in 5 art forms.
Our Vision
Bigger than a project, Abhivyakti is a movement that seeks to mainly...
Democratize art
Where art, in any form, becomes accessible, tangible and open to experience for all.
Build Bridges
To build a connection between the artists and those who are viewing it, fostering a meaningful dialogue.
Innovate & Collaborate
To redefine the artistic landscape by fostering groundbreaking collaborations.
Our Philosophy
Abhivyakti has always been about celebrating creativity and innovation by calling upon proposals from renowned artists across the country.
Our curatorial philosophy is rooted in the pursuit of artistic knowledge, conceptual depth, and technical mastery, with the goal of showcasing arts that reflect not just skill, but vision.
This artistic space is like a beacon for emerging and veteran artists who can explore new ideas, challenge the norms and create masterpieces that inspire contemplation as well as conversation.
At the heart of Abhivyakti lies this persistence to offer artists an open space where they get to follow their heart and their art! Abhivyakti is that freedom which artists look for before they delve into a world of transformative art!
