Yadā: Saraswathi and Lakshmi laughed together!

Kochi, dancers Rashmi R. Chowalloor and Vidhya S join forces in a duet that combines tradition with humour and reflection. Rashmi has been immersed in dance for more than 20 years, and together they present Yadā: Saraswathi and Lakshmi laughed together!, a Kuchipudi work that stages an imaginative dialogue between the goddess of wisdom and the goddess of wealth.

The performance blends abhinaya (expression), nritta (pure dance) and vachikam (spoken word), weaving music, movement and dialogue into a lively exchange. At its heart lies a familiar tension: the pull between knowledge and prosperity, spirituality and materialism. The dancers use this dreamlike debate to mirror a question they see in society and in their own lives, the challenge of balancing wisdom with wealth.

For the artists, the work is drawn from personal conversations and lived observations. It does not aim to moralise, but to remind audiences of the value of harmony, where both learning and prosperity have their place. Rashmi and Vidhya hope viewers leave smiling, with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of Kuchipudi and for the timeless dance between wisdom and wealth.
