Where are we headed?
Maitreyee Nimbolkar has been on her journey as a visual storyteller since 2015. Her art powerfully explores the palpable tension between the organic tranquility of nature and the relentlessly demanding, high-energy pace of urban life. Having spent her childhood immersed in the serenity of nature and her adolescence and youth in some of the world’s busiest cities, she embodies an intrinsic duality - one that continues to shape her artistic expression.
The artwork is a multidisciplinary installation titled “Where are we headed?”. It is a mixed media and video installation designed to initiate a critical dialogue on the accelerating conflict and blurred boundaries between nature and pervasive technology. The physical component presents a layered, confusing maze of digital activity mapped over serene landscapes, symbolizing the constant intrusion of the virtual world. The accompanying video component intentionally fractures a moment of calm.
The installation personally reflects the artist's own shift from a nature-filled childhood to a technologically-driven urban youth, creating a lens through which to comment on the modern condition. The installation challenges viewers to critically analyze their own relationship with technology and nature, questioning the long-term destination of a society blurring physical and virtual lines.
