Thee

Abinaya Jothi is a young theatre director and practitioner from Chennai who has been shaping her voice in theatre for the past seven years. Her journey began in college performing and learning through street plays. Majorly self-taught, she learnt from collaboration, working with different theatre groups and observing varied practices to weave her own approach. For her, theatre has always been a process of discovery and with Thee she steps into the role of director for the first time, devising the entire piece and guiding her ensemble of actors through its making.

Thee explores the condition of women in the contemporary world, asking what it means to hold peace in a society where it is constantly interrupted and dismissed. The play is both a reflection and a provocation, opening up everyday experiences of women and translating them into performance. Rather than deliver a fixed message Abinaya hopes the audience feels the story deeply and reflects on their own perspectives. For her, theatre is at its most powerful when it sparks thought and conversation, and Thee is an invitation to witness, to question and to connect.
