The Poem of Autumn: Ephemeral Memories
Manmita Ray is a visual artist from Guwahati, Assam, whose practice draws from nature, memory and sensory experience. A master’s graduate from the Department of Painting, Visva-Bharati University, she lives and works in Vadodara. She has participated in residencies and exhibitions such as Monsoon Space Studio Residency 2025, Imaginarium 3.0, Emami Art Residency 2023–24 and 100 Years of Lalit Kala Akademi, among others.
Her artwork “The Poem of Autumn: Ephemeral Memories” is created using Acrylic Ink, Beeswax and Oil on linen canvas. Presented as a three-panel painting, it captures the changing rhythms of autumn and their connection to human emotion and physical sensation. The layers of beeswax create depth, texture and fragrance, allowing the surface itself to breathe with warmth and memory. Through these organic materials, Manmita transforms familiar natural elements—falling leaves, fading flowers, seeds and insects-into symbols of transition and renewal.
The work invites viewers into a sensory dialogue where scent, texture and image evoke the fragility and persistence of life. It reflects on the beauty of impermanence and the emotional resonance of seasonal change.
