The Heart for Sale

Dishakha Yadav, an artist from Gujarat, who has been inclined towards art since childhood. She completed her Bachelor’s in Painting and Masters in Printmaking from M.S. University, Baroda. After exploring many techniques in printmaking, she felt the most connected to lithography as it gives special grains of stones unlike any other medium and she has continued to work in lithography and watercolour since then. She has been fortunate enough to be a part of Spaces 118, an art residency, Bombay and has been awarded the State Award for lithography from Lalitkala Akademi, Gujarat.

“The Heart for Sale” reflects the emotional desensitization of modern life, where logic and intellect often overpower human feeling. The artwork portrays a figure dragging a heart toward a “Brain Shop,” symbolizing society’s tendency to trade empathy for reason and sensitivity for practicality. Through this visual metaphor, Dishakha critiques the growing disconnect between emotion and intellect, questioning how progress and rationality may come at the cost of compassion. The lithographic medium enhances the tension between fragility and permanence, emphasizing the vulnerability of emotion in a world dominated by logic.

The installation invites viewers to pause and reflect on their own balance between heart and mind, reminding us that while intellect drives advancement, it is empathy that sustains our humanity.
