Tarannum thi Naadbrahma sudhi
With over five decades devoted entirely to the art of ghazal, Shobhit Desai stands as one of its most passionate torchbearers. He wrote his first poem in 1974 and stepped on stage in 1976. Since then, he has performed in more than 4,600 shows across India, from major national events to evenings with legends like Jagjit Singh.
This presentation celebrates the evolution of the Gujarati ghazal, a tradition nearly 175 years old. Through nine carefully chosen tarannums, each set to a distinct musical interpretation, from Iranian and Arabian to Beethoven-inspired and folk, Shobhit explores how this poetic form transcends borders and time.
For Shobhit, ghazal is not just music. It is his way of life, his source of enlightenment, and his lifelong devotion. With this showcase, he hopes to reconnect the younger generation to the grace and emotion of Gujarati ghazal and to show that even centuries-old verses can find new life and meaning today.
