Standing on the Indus

Quasar Thakore Padamsee is a theatre-holic and lover of all things theatrical. He is a founding member of Thespo and currently also the co-director of Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest. He enjoys working as a lighting designer, stage manager, workshop conductor and is a passionate crusader for the survival of theatre in the public consciousness. Since 1999, he has directed and produced over 25 plays with QTP about contemporary social concerns.

QTP is a theatre & arts management company that specialises in unique and engaging experiences for live audiences and is also the engine behind Thespo, India's largest youth theatre community.

Standing on the Indus is a live retelling of the experiences of Tenzin Tsundue - poet, writer, Tibetan refugee, and activist. Using testimonial theatre, this production expresses stories of humanity and kindness by cell mates, interrogators, and police personnel from the many times Tsundue went to jail - something he claimed was a ‘part of his job’. All told with remarkable candour and his trademark humour.

It is an essential tale of an extraordinary life, of an insight into people who plant trees they might never sit in the shade of.
