Sound of Women (Kumaoni Edition)

Sound of Women is a musical and emotional journey led by Krantinaari, India’s first female hip-hop artist, and Charu Hariharan, a trained Carnatic musician. After seven years of pushing boundaries through her art, Krantinaari steps into her second project with a purpose that goes beyond performance: to celebrate women who rise through music.

Their performance focuses on the life and culture of women in the Himalayan region of Kumaon. Performed by an all-women folk ensemble, it brings together voices from different age groups who sing while farming, working and living their everyday lives. The traditional hudka drum and mountain melodies form the heart of the soundscape, telling stories of struggle, community and resilience.

On stage, it transforms into a 50-minute experience that feels meditative and immersive, an invitation to leave the noise of the world behind and breathe the spirit of the Himalayas.

For Krantinaari and Charu, this is not just about sound. It is about women finding freedom, rhythm and strength together.
