Mere Hisse ka Asmaan: As Seen From Under
Sangita Khalsa is a self-taught textile artist, Fine Arts graduate and an entrepreneur, returning to art after nearly 30 years in the custom designed soft furnishing industry.
She completed a Diploma in Fine Arts from C.N. School of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad. Khalsa is the Founder & Creative Principal of SoftStory. She showcased 32 textile art pieces in her Solo Art Exhibition, Textile Chronicles (2023) and won a successful Artist in residency, Berlin (Dec 2025).
The artwork “Mere hisse ka asmaan: as seen from under” is created by layering, patchwork of different coloured fabrics, achadiyas or any patterned rescued fabrics. Each panel will have a different dominating colour. The techniques used include machine joinery, machine patchwork, katab patti, layering, dry brush work, ink, fabric pens drawing, fabric gathering and manipulation to create certain texture. The panels are a preliminary idea for the inside panel art composition, with the possibility of adding a few personal story forms.
This artwork is inspired by the unseen and unspoken, exploring human emotions and the stories of inanimate objects through hand stitching, patchwork, painting, and couching. The takeaway for the audience is the composition's potential to connect viewers to their own such experience, an emotion or memory.
