Maaye Ni Meri Akh Lag Gayi

Theatre maker and actor Hemank Soni has been part of the stage since 2015. What began as an attempt to improve his communication skills while at Delhi University soon turned into a lifelong commitment. From performing over 50 shows in the college circuit to training at Drama School Mumbai, Hemank has grown as an artist with a voice rooted in satire, folklore and contemporary themes. Guided by mentors like Dr. M. Sayeed Alam, he has performed in acclaimed productions and devised works that explore memory, migration and faith, alongside acting in films and web series.

Hemank curates Maaye Ni Meri Akh Lag Gayi, the first presentation of his newly-formed Dhuntara Collective. The play tells the story of Tooti, a 25-year-old dreamer whose search for a missing slipper takes him on a surreal journey to the moon. Staged simply with six actors on a bare platform, the piece uses Punjabi folk forms like Bhangra and Gidda to weave humour, imagination and hope.

For Hemank, Tooti’s determination reflects his own journey in theatre. He hopes the performance inspires audiences to believe that no dream is too far to reach.
