Goonj

Mumbai-based dancer and choreographer Kunaal Sangtani has built a practice that bridges technical training, international exposure and an ongoing search for original expression. His journey began with jazz at L’infni Performing Arts Academy, later taking him to the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in the UK and the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel. He has also participated in leading European festivals such as B12 and Impulstanz Vienna, experiences that shaped his unique choreographic voice.

In 2020, Kunaal founded The Movement Hub in Mumbai, a space dedicated to breaking barriers between dance forms and giving dancers the tools to grow. Alongside commercial projects and global collaborations, he continues to nurture his personal work as a choreographer.

At Abhivyakti, he presents Goonj, a piece that explores the echoes of memory. Some memories blur the lines of time, making the past feel as vivid as the present. Goonj embodies this tension, questioning the nature of time while moving through its emotional landscape. Drawing on the Cunningham technique, the choreography blends grounded, raw movement with spiralling forms that evoke the sensation of stepping into a time machine. For Kunaal, this work is freedom, the chance to speak fully in his own artistic language.
