Echoes of play
Bedamati Majhi is an emerging artist from Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Her artistic practice is a thoughtful rumination on profound themes such as memory, identity and existence. Her visual language is deeply informed by atmospheres and environments that operate on both personal and societal levels. In recognition of her brilliant work, she was awarded the Manorama Young Printmaker Award in 2020.
The artwork “Echoes of play” is a contemplative and sensitively rendered Charcoal and pencil on canvas painting. The piece focuses on how simple, treasured toys serve as powerful catalysts for imagination, emotional development and the earliest understanding of the world. It highlights the deeply shared and universal human experience of childhood memories and the common emotional threads- such as joy, comfort, security and sometimes loss, associated with those early years.
The artwork personally matters to the artist as it reflects her attempt to freeze and capture the fleeting, delicate quality of early life and the emotional resonance of her own past. Through this quiet, evocative work, Bedamati Majhi intends to inspire a moment of collective reflection. She wants the audience to recognize the fragile, fleeting beauty and inevitable passage of time.
