Dust & Life

Chintan Chaudhari, an emerging artist from a small village in Surat, draws deep inspiration from the everyday lives of farmers and laborers. Coming from a farming family himself, his practice reflects themes of struggle, dignity and resilience. By embedding real materials into his paintings, he bridges lived experience and artistic expression. His distinct use of purple-a color associated with royalty, reimagines laborers as the true bearers of wealth and strength in society.

“Dust & Life” is created with mixed media on plywood, portraying the cyclical existence of brickyard workers whose lives unfold within the same earth they mold. Generations live and die in the dust, their stories carried by the rhythm of the kiln- a space that gives and takes life in equal measure. From the scattered bricks, human hands emerge, reaching, remembering and holding onto fragments of warmth and hope.

Through this work, Chintan captures the quiet persistence and grace that thrive even in hardship, offering a powerful reflection on endurance, humanity and the unseen beauty of labor.
