Aa To Prem no Jadoo Chhe
A higher secondary school teacher and an active voice in Gujarati theatre and literature for over 16 years, Vaishakh Rathodd has carved a distinct space as both writer and performer. He has authored two Gujarati books, Budhan na Geet and Sarnehi. The latter received a national award and is now part of the Central University of Gandhinagar syllabus. As a B-High artist at All India Radio (Akashvani), his work combines literature, music and theatre to create powerful cultural storytelling.
At Abhivyakti, Vaishakh presents a Gujarati adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream that blends poetic writing, music and physical theatre to bring Shakespeare’s timeless story into the heart of Gujarati culture. Set in a small Saurashtra town in the digital age, the play uses folk music, five Gujarati dialects and contemporary themes to explore the confusion, humour and tenderness of love. The language of ghosts becomes a metaphor for politics, reflecting how power continues to influence art and society.
For Vaishakh, this work is both a tribute to his mother tongue and a reflection of the times we live in. It celebrates Gujarati expression while questioning how love, art and politics can share the same space today.
