A Place to Call Our Own
Kaavya Pawar, a Baroda-based multidisciplinary artist, holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Visual Arts (Sculpture). Her practice spans sculpture, installation, and memory-based storytelling, delving into ideas of displacement, nostalgia, and belonging. Through her use of maps, shadows, and collected objects, she constructs poetic archives that trace the delicate relationship between personal and collective memory.
Her installation “A Place to Call Our Own” uses ceramic as a medium to reflect on the constant transformation of human habitats. The sculptural forms embody both beauty and destruction, symbolizing the dual nature of progress and loss. The work extends into a participatory experience, inviting individuals affected by spatial or emotional displacement to contribute their stories- turning their gestures and voices into integral parts of the artwork.
Through this piece, Kaavya transforms fragile clay into a vessel of shared memory. It becomes a space of empathy and reflection, urging viewers to contemplate their connection to place, the shifting idea of home and the silent resilience embedded in every act of rebuilding.
