नक़्श-ए-माટી Naksh-e-Maati (Imprints of memory in clay)
Radha Devpura is a researcher, educator and artist focused on craft, material culture and community life. Pursuing her Master’s in Heritage Management at Ahmedabad University, she has been a Research Associate at Pattani Archives and collaborates closely with artisans. Her work includes projects like Vernacular Furniture of North-West India and Celebrating Clay under the British Council’s Crafting Futures Grant.
Her thoughtful artwork, "नक़्श-ए-माटी" is an evocative investigation into the nature of memory itself, expressed through the earthy, resilient material of terracotta clay. The piece draws its direct inspiration from a terracotta cluster where even broken pottery shards are valued. The installation utilizes these terracotta fragments, which are carefully reconfigured in fluid, organic patterns to understand how the earth remembers human activity.
The primary takeaway for the audience is an invitation to recognize that history is not just in books, but is constantly embedded in the silent witness of material culture, urging respect for the ancient craftspeople and their medium.
