Created using materials such as plywood, wall dust, brick powder, lime mortar, acrylics and found pigments from demolished heritage buildings, “Zameen – Kolkata: A City in Layers” transforms fragments of Kolkata’s disappearing architecture into tactile memoryscapes. The artwork reimagines the city as a living palimpsest, where each surface bears the imprints of history, emotion and erasure. By integrating painting, sculpture, sound and video, Daw evokes the haunting presence of spaces that once thrived with life. His work becomes both remembrance and reconstruction, a quiet act of preserving Kolkata’s fading soul through its own material remains.
