A transformative experience to voice your passion, was born out of a desire for a citywide cultural initiative that in time hoped to articulate the role of art in our daily environment, ABHIVYAKTI sought out to discover artists across the 4 segments of art namely Visual Arts, Theatre, Music and Dance with a hope to give voice to artists who are driven by the urge to express. ABHIVYAKTI was devoted to making the art of modern times, a vital and meaningful part of public life. More than a mere 'showcase' of inter-disciplinary arts, it aspired to be a mutual ground for a multitude of artists and audiences to come together, indulge in cathartic experiences, and relish the true flavour of the various genres of art. From light-hearted pieces to more thought-provoking and enlightening works, ABHIVYAKTI'S endeavours were guided by an enduring commitment to encourage creativity.

Imagining and communicating are two faces of our existence. The duality of the present and timeless prevails at all times. The world is in flux and ever-changing, where new contours of values and meanings get written even before old ones are forgotten. And yet the more it changes - it remains the same. It remains in constant, coagulant flux with ever-changing contours but of the same matter. Art provides society with a mirror it requires to reassess the reflection of our times and beyond. In the second Edition, curators of Abhivyakti called for proposals that were on the cusp of these possibilities. On one hand, hope was to receive proposals that were reflective and pondered the times we lived in, and in the same breath, we wanted these proposals to have innocence and depth of the timeless and wondrous idea of art. The proposals were invited this time across Gujarat, which was fearful of what they wanted to say, even anxious, but at the same time had the power to initiate dialogues with those who care to unsettle the settled and to bring solace to the troubled.

Over two editions, Ahmedabad had witnessed a profound, compelling and immersive showcasing of multi-disciplinary arts at Abhivyakti. The focus of Abhivyakti Edition 3 was on identifying and showcasing only original multi-disciplinary works of art that had played a vital role in redefining Ahmedabad's artistic culture and had given the city's indigenous creative minds a podium to show their expressions. Theatre, Music, Dance, Visual Arts – No matter what the artistic indulgence, Abhivyakti Edition 3 became a place for the infinitely curious to explore, support and experience compelling expressions for our time.

We live in a universe of possibilities that is constantly evolving. Encapsulated within this universe is an abundance of creativity, and spheres of ideas that are waiting to be explored. Each idea represents society and through an artist's creative imagination, we explore the extent of the interdisciplinary art forms. Abhivyakti's goal over the previous three editions had been to find and convey original ideas to the audience, to sculpt and mould notions that broadened perspectives and to bridge the gap between an artist's spirit and the hearts of the audience. In Abhivyakti Edition 4 we wanted to explore the possibilities and curate unique concepts that mesmerized the audience and demonstrated the vastness of art and art forms. Our goal was to show that art isn't one-dimensional. It cannot be contained within the confines of human comprehension. Art is ever-changing, ever-evolving, and it has the potential to change people's ideas as well. It is a tool to promote the thoughts and ideas of its witnesses, as well as a vehicle to express what words cannot. With this thought in mind, Abhivyakti also evolved. In Edition 4, we introduced a new category- Humor, where artists demonstrated their funny side and left the audience in tickles. We provided a platform to the voices, unique ideas and indigenous creativity! Dance, Music, Art, Theatre, and Humor came together to #Expressitloud

Stories are an archaic form of life, timeless vessels that carry the essence of our existence. They transcend time and space, weaving a tapestry of human experiences that serve as mirrors reflecting the society we live in. They hold the power to shape our perceptions, challenge our beliefs, and ignite our imagination. In their many forms, stories reveal the intricate layers of our shared humanity. They expose the triumphs and tribulations, the joys and sorrows, and the conflicts and resolutions that shape our lives. Whether whispered around campfires in ancient civilizations or inscribed on parchment in medieval times, stories have always been an integral part of our journey as a species. Every story is a unique reflection of who we are as individuals and as a collective. They offer glimpses into the intricacies of our cultures, beliefs, and values. They capture the beauty of diversity, celebrating the myriad perspectives that enrich our world. They remind us of our common struggles, fostering empathy and understanding that can bridge divides and build connections. Through the medium of art, the people of the society get a voice to tell tales of their happiness, share their sorrows and reflect upon their hardships. Through Abhivyakti, we provided a platform to witness unheard stories and bring the community closer. This communication helped share their message with the people while also providing an insight into the ‘why’ of this endeavour. It highlighted the efforts made by the project to bring every story to life.

Stories from the Soul" was a reflection of the deepest human emotions, experiences, and expressions, brought to life through the universal language of art. These were not just stories narrated by words but by movements, melodies, colors, and performances that emerged from the very core of the artist’s being. They were imbued with a sense of authenticity and intimacy, resonating on a level that transcended the ordinary. In Edition 6, each of these art forms—music, dance, theatre, and visual arts—served as a medium for these soulful stories to unfold. Dance became a poetic expression where each movement told a story of love, loss, or transformation, embodying the grace and depth of human emotion. Music touched the heartstrings with its melodies, evoking emotions that words alone could not express. Theatre breathed life into powerful human experiences, portraying stories that are rich with meaning and raw with emotion. Visual arts encapsulated these stories in vivid colours and forms, each piece a visual narrative that spoke to became the soul. The festival, anchored by the theme of expression, became a grand stage for these stories to be told. Each artist, through their chosen medium, brought forth a unique perspective—one that invited the audience not just to observe but to feel, connect, and resonate with the work. Here, the art was not merely something to be seen or heard; it was an intimate conversation between the artist’s soul and the audience, creating moments of deep reflection and emotional connection.

There were stories that echoed through generations. And then, there were stories waiting to be told. Waiting, in the silence between two musical notes. In the unfinished brushstrokes. In the spaces between words. In the breath before a dialogue was spoken. Or in the stillness between two feet on stage. These were the stories that lived in the pause, the personal. They were significant moments one wanted to share because they resonated or invoked a feeling. These stories brewed within, diffusing an aroma of emotions indicating their readiness to be savoured; and when an artist realised it, they began their expressive journey. At Abhivyakti Edition 7, we offered a stage for these unspoken narratives to emerge. We were the juncture, where an artist only had to look forward from. We were a nudge in the right direction, and our best offerings included guidance, production support and a door that opened up to possibilities. Through Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts & Literature; these stories took form, voice, rhythm, shape and space. And as for the audience, they became catalysts for an empowering journey capturing sensory and emotional stimuli, and witnessing a part of themselves evolve, rise and shine.
