Tilak Kori comes from a very modest background that has nothing to do with arts or dance. With most dancers getting their gurus at an early age, Tilak learned his first steps watching dance on a TV. Under the mentorship of Shri MV Natarajan and Smt. Maheshwari Natarajan, his passion & dedication is what has brought Tilak to where he is. Sonal Solanki is an experienced senior dancer and teacher at Darpana Academy of Performing Arts.
Their concept for Abhivyakti Edition 2 is called Thapan, which is a very strong take on the disappearing dance forms, by melding various rare genres like Bhil Dance, Dang Dance and more popular ones like Raas and Garba. Tilak adds explaining his concept that “the performance focuses on shedding light on various disappearing forms of dance and also traditional values, as we are advancing to modern culture. There’ll also be a subtle undertone of immediate problems like child marriage & women empowerment that I want to show through my performance.” The performance will be undertaken by 10 dancers, 5 live musicians from Sonal Solanki and band and will be a mix of strong narration combined with expressive dancing techniques.
