At Abhivyakti, Vaishakh presents a Gujarati adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream that blends poetic writing, music and physical theatre to bring Shakespeare’s timeless story into the heart of Gujarati culture. Set in a small Saurashtra town in the digital age, the play uses folk music, five Gujarati dialects and contemporary themes to explore the confusion, humour and tenderness of love. The language of ghosts becomes a metaphor for politics, reflecting how power continues to influence art and society.
For Vaishakh, this work is both a tribute to his mother tongue and a reflection of the times we live in. It celebrates Gujarati expression while questioning how love, art and politics can share the same space today.
