Starting as a school dancer, Sarthak Dubey was selected for a world dance championship in South Korea, where he trained and honed his dancing skills. Upon returning to India, he started to perform on the streets, across states and cities of India, embracing and popularising the art of ‘Busking’. Through his numerous solo and group productions under the umbrella of ‘Busking in India,’ he aims to create an expansive cultural movement that is centred around street dance performances. In this edition of Abhivyakti City Arts Project, Sarthak portrays the journey of a character whose life and story are loosely based on the lives of other street dancers like himself. The piece explores the challenges of family pressure and the contrasting success on stage versus the reality of street performances. Featuring styles like Locking, Popping, Hip-Hop, Whacking, and Freestyle, the production highlights the unique experience of engaging with the crowd, breaking the fourth wall, and dancing alongside them, showcasing the raw essence of street dance.
