Children’s Gujarati Folklores Told Through Contemporary Music

Meera Desai, Harmish Joshi and Shankar Iyer  are taking traditional children’s literature in Gujarati and weaving it into a musical narrative. The project aspires to use a wide spectrum of musical resources to illustrate the nuanced lessons to be learned from each tale. They’ll be using various styles, sounds, and techniques to create a cross between a musical concert and a play. Their compositions strive to be as vivid and imaginative as the tales themselves. Though the stories are for children, the music is considerably elaborate, and they hope for it to be accessible to listeners to every age.
