Al-Qawi Tazal Nanavati and Pramila Choudhary

Al Qawi Tazal Nanavati is an astounding artist whose artworks reflect the essence and importance of meditation, prayer and Islamic practices that have had a major influence in her life. She completed her Bachelors in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Accompanying Al-Qawi in this project is Pramila Choudhary, a re-entrant to the stage of Abhivyakti and sustainable textile & fashion designer, textile artist and designer educator who graduated from the Nation Institute of Design.

These two artists bonded over their similar tragedies over losing a loved one. And ignited by this bond and mutual salvation, Al-Qawi and Pramila came up with the idea for their project. They aim to create a densely packed curtain-like structure, made of knitted pods that portray the loss of the love of every kind. These curtains, made from cloths they collected from people who have lost their owners, represent the world we are in, the losses faced by everyone around us, how we as people rise above our failure and embrace love again.
